Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is a difference in the income levels of culinary MSMEs in Sumbawa Regency before and after obtaining halal certification displayed on the packaging of the products they sell. This study employs a comparative research design. The data examined in this study are quantitative data in the form of respondents’ response scores, obtained directly from primary sources through questionnaires. The population of this study consists of all culinary MSME owners in Sumbawa Regency who obtained halal certification between 2022 and 2024, totaling 2,274 business owners. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, resulting in a total of 96 respondents. The samples were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using a paired-samples mean difference test, including paired samples statistics, paired samples correlation, and paired samples t-test. The results indicate a significant difference in the income levels of culinary MSMEs in Sumbawa Regency before and after obtaining halal certification displayed on the packaging of the products they sell. This finding is based on a calculated t-value of -11.777 which is greater than the critical t-value of -1.986, as well as a significance value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that halal certification displayed on the product packaging of culinary MSMEs in Sumbawa Regency has a substantial impact on MSME income. The income levels of culinary MSMEs in Sumbawa Regency after obtaining halal certification are higher than those before obtaining halal certification.
