Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) on the level of expenditure on entertainment activities among students of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Samawa University. This study employs an associative research design. The data examined in this study are quantitative data in the form of respondents’ response scores obtained directly from primary sources through questionnaires. The population of this study consists of all students of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Samawa University, totaling 307 students. The sample size was determined using the Slovin formula, resulting in a total of 76 respondents. The samples were selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis, partial hypothesis testing (t-test), and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results showed that FoMO has a positive and significant effect on the level of expenditure on entertainment activities among students of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Samawa University. This finding is based on a calculated t-value of 4.009, which is greater than the critical t-value of 1.993 (4.009 > 1.993), as well as a significance value of 0.000, which is lower than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). FoMO explains 78.3% of the variation in students’ expenditure on entertainment activities, while the remaining 21.7% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study, such as income or allowance, family and peer influence, lifestyle, and financial literacy.
